Two sublime finishes by Edison Cavani either side of a Pepe goal helped seal Uruguay’s spot in the quarterfinals of the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
Uruguay went ahead in the 6th minute, conceding their first goal since November 2017, but their spirit proved too much for Portugal as Uruguay quickly re-established their lead.
Captain Ronaldo fronted the Portuguese attack but an excellent Diego Godin made sure that he did not see much of the ball. Godin had a near perfect night at the heart of the Uruguayan defence and was instrumental in this victory.
Uruguay will now face France, who thrashed Argentina 4-2 earlier in the day, as they look to go all the way.
